Anti-glaucoma drugs in pregnant and lactating women is always debatable issue…
On request from my dear colleague
✅ summarized in the following points about anti-glaucoma drugs in pregnant and lactating woman
✍️ if newly discovered with low risk or glaucoma suspect we can postpone ttt until the 2nd trimester( specially if we know that IOP usually decrease during pregnancy naturally)
✍️ if high risk we can start with beta blockers, alpha agonist, topical CAIs ( the lowest dose and frequency) but stop beta blockers and alpha agonist at 8th month to avoid side effects on the fetus during labor.
✍️ ALT and SLT is also an option.
✍️ PG absolutely contraindicated during pregnancy as it may precipitate premature uterine contractions and abortion.
✍️ systemic CAI contraindicated in pregnancy and lactating woman ( teratogenic and metabolic acidosis with renal failure)
